- Korea hosts kick-off general meeting of ICT standardization group
The National Radio Research Agency (RRA) under the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning announced it will host the first general meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Joint Technical Committee’s (JTC 1) ICT standardization subcommittee on IoT (SC 41) from May 28 (Sun) to June 2 (Fri) in Seoul.
At the ISO/IEC JTC 1 general meeting held in November, 2016, Korea became the Secretariat for SC 41 on IoT. JTC 1 upgraded the standardization group, previously a working group, to a technical committee and established SC 41 in order to focus members’ capacity on developing standards that can lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution
At the first general meeting, members will discuss the types and scope of standardization issues that will be dealt at SC 41 - in particular, wearables and industrial IoT. RRA aims to take this opportunity to promote Korea‘s excellent capacity in IoT standardization and further strengthen its leadership in global standardization.
To this end, RRA will hold an open seminar under the theme “IoT standardization in Korea and JTC1“ on the sidelines of the meeting. At the seminar, RRA plans to promote the government‘s IoT strategy and share standardization update in businesses with experts from around the world, as well as inviting local experts to boost interest in the JTC 1/SC 41 activities.
RRA Director-General Yoo Dae-seon said “such achievement is the outcome of Korea’s steady investment in IoT standardization. We will continue this effort to nurture IoT standards as a mainstay in Korea’s future and a global success case.”
