Korea to Strengthen ICT Cooperation with Central America (December 28)
- MSIT to sign a MoU with CABEI
□ The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced it signed a MoU with CABEI (Central American Bank for Economic Integration) for promoting mutual cooperation in the field of ICT and joint investment on December 27. (Gwacheon Government Complex, Gwanmun-ro, Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do)
ㅇ In the venue, Vice Minister Wonki Min of MSIT and Executive President Dante Mossi of CABEI attended.
□ CABEI is a multilateral development bank established in 1960 to contribute to economic development and regional integration of Central America. Its main function involves providing financial support such as infrastructure and energy projects developed by public and private sector.
□ MSIT and CABEI signed a MoU to share knowledge and experiences in the field of ICT through seminars and workshops. They agreed to work together in policy setting and system development in the field of ICT among Central American countries and look for investment opportunities for areas of common interest.
ㅇ By signing a MoU with CABEI, MSIT plans to have closer cooperation for advancement of broadband and ICT in Central America and continue to discuss topics such as sending staff members or experts.
□ Vice Minister Wonki Min said “the signing of MoU with CABEI will spread the Korean ICT development model to Central America to contribute to expanding broadband internet and ICT advancement.”
□ CABEI is a development financial institution established to provide funding for national socioeconomic development of countries in Central America. It currently has 15 member states and capital worth about 5 billion dollars.
o Korea has total capital worth 450 million dollars and is preparing to join CABEI.
